My boyfriend doesn't appreciate his bday gifts?

I pay a lot of attention to the things I see he would like or need or his lifestyle etc. He started being healthy and loved trail mix so I got him a dehydrator so he could make his own and it sits in the garage, then one year he got all into different kinds of beer so I got him a beer making kit and he made beer once and now it sits in the garage as well, and he loves the Dodgers so one year I got him a nice subtle Dodgers jacket and he never wears it. Anyway it's just a little frustrating that it seems as though he doesn't seem to see how much thought I put into his gifts. I almost just want to do nothing and hand him some Cologne and his birthday. I just think the thought that goes into them should be appreciated right? Should I do what I usually do or make it simple so I don't feel bad?
